Amentet
Amentet, Her title “She of the West” is not just a statement related to geography, but also related to her role in mythology because, as the sun sets towards the west, it was to be escorted by death, which was where Imentet usually reigned.
Imentet goddess who was later depicted with a woman’s face and inward-curling horns, clearly reflecting the curve of the cow horns.
Further, Amenti (or amentet) was believed to be where the sunset, and where the entrance to the afterworld was located.
Although later the term began to associate itself with cemeteries and tombs as well.
Imentet (Ament, Amentet, or Imentit, meaning “She of the West”, was a goddess in antique Egypt representing the Necropolis of the west bank of the Nile river.
She was the consort of Aken, a deity who taught Ra through parts of the underworld.
Although she was never officially worshipped, she was mentioned in various commendations and passages of the book of the dead (Imidwat).
The main role of Imentet
Amentet As goddess of the deceased, she lived in a tree looking out at the entrance to the Dwat “the hereafter”.
Her main role, other than being a minor fertility goddess, was to offer food and drink to the newly dead.
She would renew their souls enough to cross to the “fields of reed” which is often equated with heaven in antique Egypt religion.
Amentet was so closely connected with Isis and Hathor in their immortality roles that she may be less an independent deity than an alternate form of those two goddesses.
Amentet often appears in tombs welcoming the deceased into the afterlife, sometimes with wings, and sometimes as a kite because of her connection to Nephtys and Isis.
