Its strategic position on a promontory of the Mokattam hills close to Cairo’s center grants it a commanding vantage point over the city and control of its skyline. It was one of the most impressive and ambitious military fortification projects of its day when it was built. These days, it is a conserved historical monument with mosques and museums. Muhammad Ali Pasha ordered the construction of the Alabaster Mosque, also known as the Great Mosque of Muhammad Ali Pasha, between 1830 and 1848. It is a mosque that can be found in Cairo’s Citadel.
