Dendera temple and Abydos Day Tour.
One of, if not the best-preserved temple in all of Upper Egypt is the Dendera temple Complex, which houses the Temple of Hathor.
A substantial mud brick wall encloses the 40,000 square-meter complex as a whole.
The current temple of Hathor was constructed by the Roman emperor Tiberius in July 54 BC, during the reign of Ptolemy XII of the Ptolemaic dynasty.
However, it rests on the foundations of earlier structures that date at least as far back as Khufu (also known as the Great Pyramid builder Cheops, the second Pharaoh of the 4th dynasty [c. 2613–c. 2494 BC].
The sacred city of Abydos is one of Egypt’s most significant archaeological sites. It was home to numerous ancient temples, including Umm el-Qa’ab, a royal necropolis where early pharaohs were interred. the city was called Abdju (ꜣbḏw or AbDw). The English name Abydos comes from the Greek Abdju, and Abydos had emerged as a primary cult center for Osiris, the god of the dead Osiris.
This god, representing the incarnation of the deceased and reborn pharaoh as ruler of the netherworld, was now thought to have been buried at Umm el-Gaab.
It later became attractive to be buried in the area because of these tombs, which increased the town’s significance as a religious center.
These tombs initially came to be viewed as particularly significant burials.
The memorial temple of Seti I, which has an inscription from the Nineteenth Dynasty known as the Abydos King List in contemporary times, is what makes Abydos famous today.
From Menes to Seti I’s father, Ramesses I, the cartouches of the majority of Egypt’s dynasty pharaohs are seen in this chronological chronology.
The graffiti from Abydos, ancient Phoenicians, and Aramaic that was uncovered on the walls of the Temple of Seti I is also remarkable.
Under the contemporary structures to the north of the Seti temple lie the Great Temple and most of the old town.
Many of the original buildings and the items they contained are regarded as being lost and irretrievable; many may have been destroyed by the new building.
Abydos was one of the holiest sites in the world, as the cult center of the god Osiris, and gateway to the underworld (believed to lie under the nearby hills). It was a popular place of pilgrimage and burial since ancient times.
